City of Angels
So my good friend from work J.'s father-in-law passed away last week. She was always a devoted daughter-in-law to him. During the past week, I had sent her numerous emails and left her a couple of phone messages to see how she is doing. She called me back today at work. I could hear the pain in her voice still. My heart went out to her.She had actually called me to ask me about this job I had applied for in her section. She told me how her manager had approached her to ask a couple of questions about me and how she had given him a glorious reference of me. While I continued to note the pain and the effort in her voice, she continued to give me tips for the exam that I will have to potentially write for the position and the interview that may follow, should I pass the exam.
I cannot believe how selfless she is. Its because of her I am following the career and academic path that I am and, needless to say, a path that I'm proud of. No one has ever looked out for me more than she has. I wish I can be there for her just like she's been there for me. So many times that I've actually lost count.
We may not be the best of friends, since she's 12 years older than me and has two kids. But she really is one of those people in my life that had they not been there, I wouldn't be where I am today.
